Ruhango: Youth from Digital Opportunity Trust, an organisation that delivers training in ICT, business and livelihood skills, in joint effort with the National Youth Council, Ruhango District, built a house for one family of homeless autochthones in Nyarusange cell in Byimana sector. This was organized by the youth in context of supporting the vulnerable in contribution to the national development.

The youth who had come to support the initiative, the DOT staff and participants in their testimonies, said that on top of attending training in ICT and Business, they also have a responsibility to help the poor people attain a decent life. Nzeyimana Emmanuel, the Program Manager of Digital Opportunity Trust, in his interview with Imvaho, said that people in urban areas especially the youth should take a lead in finding solutions to problems like bad shelters in rural communities. This will make a difference as communities appreciate initiatives that youth who have been trained can take.

Boniface Ntwari, 48 years old has a wife and three children, said, to see young people he doesn't know coming together to build him a home has overjoyed him. He went on to say that now with his own house he will be able to receive guests. "It is an act I really appreciate because where I did not take pride in the house my family lived in;  we had to share it with our livestock."

The Executive Secretary of Byimana sector, Mr. Jean Marie Nahayo, announced that it is important that young people develop the culture of giving back to their community and contributing to the Government's policies, more so that January is a month dedicated to Good Governance. He added that Good Governance should be converted into tangible acts like this through which youth are also contributing.

The work accomplished by DOT youth and the National Youth Council  of the Byimana Sector consisted of making bricks for  the house and a side kitchen, bathroom, toilet, and a livestock sheds but also siding and dry walling. The entire work was estimated to Rwf 300,000.

DOT delivers training in ICT and Business skills to youth and women in 22 districts across the country.
